Niger Assembly urges executive to roll out palliatives for civil servants, other citizens
Worried about recent government policies that plunged Nigerians into untold hardship, the Niger State House of Assembly has called on the executive arm of government to roll out palliatives for its civil servants and other citizens in the state.
This was brought out of the motion of matters of public importance calling on the executive arm of the Niger State Government to appeal to the Federal Government to urgently address the multifaceted economic crisis that was laid at the plenary by the chairman of Labour and Productivity and the member representing Suleja Constituency, Hon. Murtala A. Badaru, on Wednesday.
Badaru said, "The recent economic challenges bedevilling the nation as a result of some recent policies of the government have developed into a multifaceted form of economic instability, inflation, poverty, and hunger.
He said that the nationwide strike currently going on should be taken seriously and that the government needs to tackle the economic situation as enshrined in the constitution to better the welfare of its citizens.
According to him, the escalating cost of living has become worrisome, families are finding it difficult to get basic necessities, and salary earners are barely surviving trekking long distances to get to their offices.
He added that the naira has lost its value, that the prices of items have skyrocketed, and that the cost of transportation is beyond imagination.
"The government needs to urgently roll out more economically friendly policies that will curb this present predicament we are battling with, especially as the frequency of protests is becoming very alarming and cannot be ignored as there seems to be no relief for the people," he said.
