FLAILAS matriculates 731 students for 2024/2025 academic session
The management of Fati Lami Abubakar Institute for Legal and Administrative Studies, Minna, Niger State, has matriculated 731 newly admitted students for the 2024/2025 academic session.
Speaking at the matriculation ceremony held at the Mass Communication Hall of the Institute, the Provost, Dr. Amina Usman Kutigi, announced that the Institute received a total of 976 applications for admission. Out of these, 882 applicants were successful, with 731 registering as bona fide students as of the matriculation day. Law students recorded the highest number of matriculants with 221, followed by the School of Communication with 143 students, the School of Arts with 97, and Education with 90, while Business Administration and Public Administration made up the remaining matriculated students.
Dr. Amina Kutigi congratulated the new students for securing admission into the college, describing their choice to pursue their educational careers at the Institute as a significant milestone. She emphasised that their academic journey marks the beginning of a new and exciting chapter filled with challenges, opportunities, and growth.
The provost urged the students to remain committed to their studies and strive for excellence. She also advised them to avoid deviant behaviours such as drug abuse, cultism, ritualism, examination malpractices, and acts of lawlessness, warning that anyone caught engaging in such activities would be punished accordingly.
Highlighting some recent developments and achievements of the Institute under her management, Dr. Kutigi stated that the institution is committed to continuous improvement and innovation in line with its mission and the New Niger Agenda of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago. She mentioned that the institution has introduced several reforms aimed at enhancing the quality of education, including compulsory skills acquisition programs that will enable students to graduate with two certificates.
The school has also introduced additional courses in accounting, taxation, and paralegal studies to provide prospective students with a broader range of options. Furthermore, the Institute has received NBTE approval for the following courses after resource inspection: National Diploma in Business Administration, Public Administration, Computer Science, and Crime Management. The process of resource inspection for the law program has also commenced.
Dr. Kutigi disclosed that the school had gained full accreditation and approval from the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) to offer Arts/Education Diploma programs.
On the challenges faced by the Institute, the Provost cited the lack of government intervention, incomplete accreditation of some programs, limited infrastructure, instructional facilities, and automobiles as issues affecting the institution's functionality. She appealed to the concerned authorities for assistance.
The ceremony's highlights included the administration of oath to the new students and goodwill messages.
