Gov Umaru Bago condemns Plateau attacks
Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has condemned in strong terms the wanton killings of innocent people in Plateau State. In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mal. Bologi Ibrahim, the Governor described the Christmas Eve attacks on communities on the Plateau as unwarranted and unacceptable.
He said it was unfortunate that while the people were preparing to celebrate Christmas, those despicable souls who have no value for life decided to turn people's joy into sorrow. He called on security agencies never to relent until all the perpetrators, without exception, are hounded down and brought to justice.
While sympathizing with the people and government of Plateau State, especially the affected families, Governor Umaru Bago urged the federal government to do all within its power to ensure that perpetrators are not only apprehended but prosecuted. He prayed that God grant quick recovery to those injured and bring those displaced safely back to their ancestral homes.
On Sunday night, gunmen suspected to be of Fulani ethnic stock, in a brazen act of genocide, attacked several communities in Barikin Ladi, Mangu, and Bokkos local government areas of Plateau State, killing over 100 people, burning down houses, and injuring many, with thousands displaced.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condemned the attack and ordered security agencies to arrest the perpetrators of the heinous crime and bring them to book.
