Association to collaborate with Niger govt against domestic violence
African Women Lawyers Association (AWLA) Niger State chapter will partner with relevant agencies in the state to fight against domestic violence, particularly against girls and the vulnerable in the state.
The state chairperson of the association, Hajiya Uma Mohammed, stated this in a press release made available to journalists in Minna on Tuesday.
She stated that the association was established across the African continent and aimed at providing the needed protection to the girl child, women, and the vulnerable in society.
She explained that AWLA as an association was not competing with the Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), "but members of AWLA have some relevant collaboration in fighting the same cause.".
The chairperson announced that the association in Niger State will soon embark on sensitization and enlightenment programmes across some selected secondary schools in the state to enlighten the students on the activities of the association in the state.
She equally disclosed that the association will inform the students to protect themselves against any act of sexual molestation, emphasising that the association will collaborate with the state Ministry of Women Affairs and other relevant stakeholders in ensuring the total eradication of violence against women and girls.
She then enjoined members of the public, all the critical stakeholders, and civil society organisations (CSOs) in the state to partner with AWLA so as to achieve the set objectives of protecting the girl child, women, and the vulnerable.
