Niger Assembly urges executive arm to end youth restiveness in Minna
A member representing Munya Constituency and Chairman of the Security and Intelligence Committee in the Niger State House of Assembly, Hon. Joseph Haruna Duza, has called on the executive arm of government to expedite action in curbing youth restiveness and thuggery in Minna, the state capital.
In a matter of urgent public importance presented by Hon. Duza, the House of Assembly said that youth restiveness has become a frequent menace that must be checked.
He said that allowing youth restiveness to linger will continue to cause havoc in society.
"Acting under the guise and influence of these intoxicants, they fight amongst themselves and, at the same time, constitute a nuisance to society by committing various offenses," he said.
According to him, the illicit drugs and intoxicants being taken by some of these youths have affected even innocent people, where their lives are threatened and property is destroyed and looted.
"The frequency of these attacks is becoming more worrisome, and the government needs to take more proactive measures to curb the menace," he added.
Meanwhile, the State House of Assembly will invite all the heads of security services and other security agencies to a meeting on Monday next week to get first-hand details of what needs to be done to end youth restiveness.
The speaker of the NGSH, Barr Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, announced the meeting with the security outfit to get proper information to advise the executive arm correctly.
Also, the meeting will have the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and the Commissioner of Homeland and Internal Security.
