Niger Assembly calls for revamping Bi-Water works at Agwara
Niger State House of Assembly (NSHA) has called on the executive arm of government to revamp the Bi-Water Plant in Agwara to provide the people of the area with portable and sufficient drinking water.
This was presented in a motion before the plenary by the member representing Katcha Constituency and Chairman House Committee on Water Resources and Dam Development, Hon Abdulmalik Yakubu Bala, calling on the executive arm to overhaul the equipment at Agwara Bi-Water Plant.
According to him, during the committee oversight function, it was discovered that out of 56 bi-water schemes in the state, only that of Mariga was functional, but with the intervention of the United Nations, more water schemes, which included Beji, Tegina, Tunga Mallam, and Kateregi, were now functional.
He said that the Ministry of Water Resources should, as a matter of urgency, raise a memo to reactivate the Agwara Bi-Water Scheme that has totally broken down.
The legislator added that most challenges of the water schemes were power supply and called for the provision of vehicles to the ministry for monitoring of the scheme.
For adequate maintenance and sustainability of the scheme, he appealed for an upward review of budgetary provisions for it as well as involving community members in the execution of the project.
