Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has been commended for approving the sum of N50,000 as scholarship for all students who are indigenes of the state pursuing various courses in tertiary institutions across the country.
This commendation was made by the Vice President of the National Association of Niger State Students (NANISS), Habibat Abdullahi Yari, while speaking with Newsline in an interview recently in Minna.
Habibat, who is a student at the Fati Lami Abubakar Institute for Legal and Administrative Studies, Kpankugu, Minna, said that she was happy and execited by the kind gesture of the governor in approving the scholarship award for the students at this critical period.
She disclosed that the governor has left an everlasting legacy in the educational sector of the state that the beneficiaries of the scholarship will never forget.
The students' union executive further told Newsline that the governor has made remarkable achievements that the past administration in the state had never done since the creation of the state 48 years ago.
According to her, the payment and disbursement of the scholarship to the students, which occurred last week, was a welcome development, especially as it has come at a critical period when people are facing lots of challenges as a result of the high cost of living due to the removal of fuel subsidy.
The vice president of NANISS, however, advised the beneficiaries of the scholarship to make judicious use of the money given to them so as to justify the offer and take their studies seriously.
Speaking on the infrastructural activities of the governor, Habibat Yari appreciated the efforts of the present administration for embarking on massive construction of roads and drainages as well as the provision of solar street lights in the state, which, according to her, has given the state a facelift, which she said was a true reflection of the governor's New Niger agenda.
