Acting Gov commends Niger residents for choosing dialogue over protest
In a heartfelt address at the Government House, Minna, on Monday, August 12, 2024, Acting Governor of Niger State, Comrade Yakubu Garba, expressed profound gratitude to the residents and stakeholders of Niger State for their restraint and commitment to dialogue in the aftermath of the recent nationwide protest.
Governor Garba praised the unity and mutual respect demonstrated by the people of Niger State, highlighting their dedication to the state's progress and development. "Your commitment to unity, mutual respect, and constructive dialogue is not just commendable, but it is the very essence of our collective dedication to the progress and development of Niger State," he stated.
The Acting Governor extended his appreciation to various groups, including the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Students Union Government (SUG), National Association of Niger State Students (NANISS), Artisan Association, Traditional Leaders, Imams Forum, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Vigilante Group, Road Transport Union, and Marketer Association, for their decision to refrain from participating in the protest.
Hon. Garba also commended the efforts of the Commissioner of Police, other security agencies, and the vigilante group for ensuring the safety and stability of the communities during this period. He acknowledged the vital role of the media and journalists in promoting the government's initiatives and accelerating the state's growth.
In his address, Acting Governor Garba reassured residents of the administration's commitment to their welfare, citing initiatives such as selling grains at a 50 percent discount across all 25 local government areas. He emphasised the government's dedication to security, prosperity, and happiness for all residents.
The Acting Governor also pledged to convey the concerns and aspirations of Niger State residents to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, ensuring that their voices are heard at the national level. He urged continued understanding and faith in the administration, welcoming constructive criticism to enhance the state's development.
Addressing the unfortunate incident in Tafa Local Government, which resulted in the loss of properties, Governor Garba expressed his condolences to the affected residents and reiterated the administration's commitment to transparency and accountability.
Acting Governor Garba concluded his address by calling for continued unity and peaceful progress, stating, "Together, let us continue to build a brighter and more prosperous Niger State."
