Niger NUJ Chairman advocates strategic information management for enhanced army public relations
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Niger State Council, Comrade Abu Nmodu, has emphasised the need for a robust strategic information management mechanism to improve Army public relations practices.
During a familiarisation visit by the Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Training, and Doctrine Command, Nigerian Army (TRADOC NA), Lt. Col. Sani Uba, at the IBB Pen House in Minna, Comrade Nmodu highlighted the Nigerian Army's global recognition for its constitutional role. He stressed that such an esteemed institution deserves the support of journalists and all well-meaning Nigerians.
Comrade Nmodu assured that journalists in Niger State, under the NUJ, have a commendable record of responsible journalism. He pledged their unwavering support and cooperation with the Army to achieve mutual goals.
Lt. Col. Sani Uba, leading the delegation, stated that the visit aimed to strengthen the existing relationship between the Army and the NUJ, particularly in media and information dissemination. He urged journalists to seek clarification on Army-related issues before publishing to prevent the spread of fake news, misinformation, and disinformation.
Lt. Col. Uba described TRADOC as an extension of the Army Headquarters, emphasising the importance of journalists understanding the Army's formations and operations for accurate reporting. He explained that TRADOC is responsible for training Army personnel, conducting examinations, and organising conferences, seminars, and workshops to enhance Army-Public Relations.
He acknowledged the NUJ as a crucial stakeholder in shaping public perception and fostering dialogue between the military and civilians. Lt. Col. Uba called for continued support and cooperation from the media to ensure effective dissemination of Army-related information.
