NUJ celebrates Niger State progress on Independence Day
As Nigeria celebrates its Independence Day, the Niger State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has extended its felicitations to Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago and the entire populace of the state.
The union praised the virtues of the nation's founding fathers and acknowledged the contributions of those who have advanced Niger State's development over the years.
The NUJ expressed its delight with the current administration's efforts to drive development through the New Niger Agenda and its strategic investments in the state's agricultural potential.
In a statement, the council's Secretary, Comrade Usman Chiji, commended the governor's vision but emphasized the need for the government to address the current hardships faced by the people with effective strategic actions and policy frameworks.
Comrade Usman Chiji highlighted that for any development agenda to succeed, the people must be actively mobilized and engaged in the process. He stressed the critical role of the media as stakeholders in this engagement and mobilization effort.
The NUJ Secretary assured that media practitioners in the state would support the administration's goals, provided they are allowed to operate in a conducive environment that aligns with democratic values.
As gatekeepers, the NUJ emphasized that journalism is a vital tool for fostering a culture of nation-building. The union called for journalists to be recognized as partners in achieving a progressive agenda for the benefit of the people.
The union appreciated the governor's efforts thus far and urged him to maintain the momentum, while also praying for the best as the nation marks its 64th Independence Anniversary.
