The Niger State House of Assembly has called for the establishment of a security camp in Wayam, Rafi Local Government Area, to address the escalating security challenges in the region. This call was made following a matter of urgent public importance presented by Hon. Zubairu Ismaila Zannah, the member representing Rafi Constituency.
Hon. Zannah urged the executive arm to construct the camp and appealed to the state government to seek the Federal Government’s assistance in deploying security personnel to the area. This initiative aims to curb the influx of bandits and kidnappers terrorizing the community.
On Tuesday, November 5, 2024, Wayam was attacked by bandits and kidnappers, resulting in the deaths of seven people, injuries to four others, and the abduction of 21 residents. This attack is part of a series of violent incidents that have plagued the community.
During the attack, several houses were set ablaze, leaving residents homeless and without food as their farm produce was destroyed in the fire. Hon. Zannah also highlighted that neighboring villages have not been spared from these ordeals. Two weeks ago, 12 vigilantes were killed, and cattle were rustled by the bandits.
Hon. Zannah emphasized that establishing a security camp in Wayam is crucial for restoring peace and stability to the affected communities, many of which have been displaced by the ongoing violence.
