Niger Assembly holds public hearing on sports commission bill
The Niger State House of Assembly recently held a public hearing on a private bill aimed at establishing the Niger State Sports Commission.
During the hearing, the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Barr. Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin-Daji, emphasized the 10th Assembly’s commitment to collaborating with relevant stakeholders to create effective legislation for the benefit of the people. Represented by Hon. Arc. Abubakar Suleiman (Bosso Constituency), the Speaker commended the Chairman and members of the House Standing Committee on Sports Development for organizing the public hearing, as well as the stakeholders for their valuable contributions and discussions to ensure the bill’s success.
Hon. Zakari Ndagi Kinbokun (Mokwa Constituency), Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Sports Development, highlighted the importance of stakeholder input in facilitating the bill’s passage.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Ibrahim Yahaya Gulbin-Boka, noted the timeliness of the bill for advancing sports in the state, emphasizing that sports serve as a unifying factor for peaceful development.
Dr. Nuhu Garba Ngaski, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, also highlighted the Ministry’s position on the bill.
Stakeholders present at the hearing included representatives from the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), and the Ministry of Justice, among others.
