Niger govt offers scholarships to 100 Agwara students for medical studies
The Niger State Government has offered scholarships to 100 students from the Agwara Local Government Area to pursue medical-related courses both within and outside Nigeria. Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago announced this initiative during his visit to Agwara as part of his statewide projects monitoring tour.
Governor Bago emphasised that the scholarships aim to produce qualified health workers to meet the healthcare needs of Agwara’s residents. He also revealed plans to upgrade the Level 2 Primary Healthcare Centre in Agwara to a general hospital, enhancing healthcare services in the area.
The governor encouraged parents to take advantage of the state’s free education program and enrol their children, highlighting education as a key to unlocking numerous opportunities.
In addition to the scholarships, Governor Bago promised to construct a market in Agwara to boost trade, leveraging the area’s significant agricultural potential. He inspected the proposed site for the All Progressives Congress (APC) local government secretariat in Agwara, pledging support for the project and ensuring the road leading to the secretariat will be paved.
Governor Bago also urged local party officials to plant trees around the secretariat as part of his green initiative. During his visit to the palace of Sarkin Agwara, Alh. Hassan Zakari Mohammed, he received royal blessings and expressed gratitude for the warm reception.
Furthermore, the governor inspected the Bi-water project in the Rofia community, assuring residents that they will have access to potable water within the next three months.
Representatives from the Borgu-Agwara Federal Constituency, Jafaru Mohammed, and Agwara State Assembly member, Nura Garba, expressed their appreciation to Governor Bago for his responsiveness to the needs of the people, praising him as a true leader worthy of emulation.
