In a significant legal development, Justice Maimuna Abubakar of the Niger State High Court Six has issued arrest warrants for Omokayode Lawal, the managing director of Polaris Bank PLC, and the manager of the bank’s Minna branch. This action follows their alleged contempt of court due to noncompliance with court summonses related to serious financial allegations.
The court’s directive stems from accusations of tax evasion against the bank’s leadership. The Niger State Revenue Service, represented by legal counsel Muhammad Ndayako SAN, claims that Polaris Bank PLC and its representatives owe more than one billion Naira in unpaid taxes.
During the proceedings, Justice Abubakar noted the absence of both defendants and their legal representatives, highlighting their disregard for the legal process. Consequently, she mandated that police officers arrest both individuals to ensure their appearance in court.
The next hearing is scheduled for December 13, 2024, when the defendants are expected to be arraigned and address the allegations against them.
