Re-run elections: Niger CP urges political class to act responsively

As the people of Lavun Local Government Area of Niger State go to the polls for a re-run election of the state House of Assembly for Lavun constituency, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman, has urged political parties, candidates, and their supporters to conduct themselves responsibly in accordance with the electoral procedures.
The commissioner, who handed over this warning in a press release issued by the Command PPRO, DSP Wasiu Abidoun, and made available to Newsline on Friday, said that the command leadership under his watch will not tolerate any attempt by anybody to disrupt the electoral process or violate the established guidelines, adding that anyone caught in such an act will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
On the security arrangements for the conduct of the re-run election, the commissioner of police has assured adequate deployment of personal and operational assets to the area for a credible and peaceful conduct of the election.
CP Danmamman said that DCP Shehu Umar Didango was deployed to lead the police personnel, in addition to the officers and men of Bida Area Command under Area Commander ACP Abidoun Bakare, to ensure a conducive environment for INEC to carry out their responsibility in a peaceful atmosphere.
CP Danmamman said that the IGP has ordered the restriction of all forms of vehicular movement on roads, waterways, and other forms of transportation from 12 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in some parts of Lavun LGA of the state where the election was to be conducted, with the exception of those on essential services, such as INEC staff, accredited media, observers, both foreign and domestic, ambulances responding to medical emergencies, firefighters, etc., during the period of the election.
The police also ordered the ban on all security aides to VIPs and escorts from accompanying their principals and polititians to the polling units and collation centres during the election.
The commissioner of police further reassures Nigerlites and residents of its commitment to further secure a democratic society, urging members of the public to report any suspicious activity to the command.
