Niger State Liquor Licence Board has said that by January 1, 2024, the sales and consumption of alcohol at Suleja would be banned, and some beer joints within Minna town were also served with relocation letters and were to move outside within an eight-kilometre radius of the post office.
The secretary of the board, Mal Ibrahim Muhammad Bonu, who stated this while speaking with newsmen recently, warned the staff of the board to stay away from any illegal activities, and he also warned the vendors to abide by the relevant laws of the state.
He explained that, based on the extent of the laws that established the liquor board, nine local government areas were on the first schedule of prohibited areas, and Suleja happened to be among them, adding that, as such, the board would ensure strict compliance with the law.
The secretary commended Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago for giving the liquor board a new lease of life since his assumption of office and promised not to betray the confidence he had in them.

Niger State Commissioner for Livestock and Fisheries Development, Hon. Ibrahim Mami Ijah, has disclosed that Nigerlites no longer need to travel out of the state to get day-old chickens and fingerlings.
The Commissioner, who stated this on Sunday during an interview with journalists in Minna, disclosed that the Bosso poultry production unit has been equipped with an incubator with the capacity of hatching 560 eggs.
He revealed that the state, through the ministry, now produces day-old chicks in addition to hatching and producing fingerlings, which was unprecedented in the history of the state.
The commissioner explained that the effort was aimed at boosting livestock production in the state as well as improving internally generated revenue.
He commended the state governor, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, for providing the necessary support needed towards actualizing the New Niger Agenda in the livestock and fisheries sector of the state.
The Commissioner further stated that the ministry was looking forward to establishing a public-private partnership to harness the full potential of livestock production, increase internally generated revenue, and provide meaningful employment opportunities to the teeming unemployed youths in the state.
He said that plans were on the ground for the ministry to engage youths in skill acquisition and empowerment programmes on livestock production in the first quarter of 2024.
Hon. Mami Ijah reaffirmed his commitment to repositioning the ministry for efficient service delivery.
