By Suleiman Yakubu
Niger State Governor, Hon. Mohammed Umar Bago, promised the people of Rafi local government yesterday, that he would construct a dual carriageway into Kagara, standardise Kagara township roads, and construct roads connecting other villages.
He stated this at the palace of the Emir of Kagara, HRH, Mal. Ahmed Garba Attahiru Gunna II, when he paid him a Sallah homage at Kagara town.
He said, "Kagara has only one single road going into the town, but I have the intention, by God's will, to construct a double lane into Kagara. This is in addition to standardising the road network inside Kagara town and connecting other villages with roads”.
The governor, who was conferred with the traditional title of Gwarzon Kagara, said the security of the lives and properties of all citizens, wherever they live in the state, was paramount to his administration.
He advised the people to avoid night movements because the military and other security agencies would embark on mop-up operations to rid the local government and other areas affected by banditry.
Governor Mohammed Umar Bago thanked the emir for hosting him and conferring on him the title of Gwarzon Kagara, assuring him that he would work assiduously to justify the confidence reposed in him.
He further restated the resolve of his administration to embark on a massive urban renewal programme, informing his host that Kagara will benefit tremendously.
The governor also announced the flag-off of the sale of fertiliser by the government at subsidised rates.
Earlier in his remarks, the Emir of Kagara, HRH Mal Ahmed Garba Attahiru Gunna II, appreciated the visit and commended the efforts of the governor in improving security in the emirate.
He said they were happy with the development, which enabled them to observe Eid el Kabir celebration without any fear, and this will also translate to a bumper harvest because farmers have now returned to their farms hitherto abandoned due to insecurity.
The emir also disclosed that each of the traditional title holders in the emirate has acquired at least one hectare of land to engage in farming, following the strategies evolved by the present administration to promote national policy on food security.
The governor was accompanied by the Deputy Governor, Comrade Yakubu Garba, and other top government functionaries.
